Philanthropy
Unfortunately, movies like Animal House and American Pie Beta House portray Greek Life in a negative light and completely avoid all of the positive aspects of joining a Greek chapter. One of the most important opportunities our members have to get involved in are philanthropic events. There is nothing more satisfying than giving back to the community and those in need. Our fraternity participates in 5 philanthropy events throughout the year on top of the thousands of dollars raised and hours spent volunteering for Homecoming and Greek Week. Adopt-A-School is one of our National philanthropies that every Delt chapter across the nation participates in. Every member of our chapter is asked to volunteer at a local elementary school once a semester. This past Spring our fraternity was awarded with special recognition from our National organization for having fulfilled the Adopt-A-School requirements. Along with Adopt-A-School, our fraternity also participates in Adopt-A-Highway, and will be participating in Adopt-A-Campus for the first time this fall.

Angel Tree occurs toward the end of every fall semester. It is sad to say that not every child around the Ames area will receive a present this Christmas, especially with our Nation's economic situation. By spending a little money and a little time, our members brighten a kid's Christmas by adopting him or her as their angel and purchasing the item on their wish list.

Dance Marathon is the largest philanthropy event at Iowa State, with a large majority of the members that plan and participate in the event being Greek. This past year 9 of our members were either on the executive team or committe that helped plan the event, while 17 other members participated. All of the $160,000+ raised by the event goes to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Bleed Purple, our other National philanthropy, takes place toward the beginning of every school year. All of the money raised goes to help college students with cancer pay off their large medical bills so that they can still attend college. This philanthropy was actually started by brothers of Delta Tau Delta from the Theta Zeta chapter in California that had a fraternity brother get diagnosed with cancer. Last year Delta Tau Delta decided to make Bleed Purple one of its national philanthropies, and Delt chapters across the nation managed to quickly respond by raising over $60,000.
